How Medi-Share works

Medi-Share is a Christian health care sharing ministry. Members help one another with eligible medical bills under written guidelines. It is not health insurance, and payment of a bill is not guaranteed.

Follow a medical bill through Medi-Share Complete

  1. Before the visit, check the program’s provider guidance and ask whether the service needs advance notification.
  2. When the bill arrives, the program reviews it under the sharing guidelines. A bill can be eligible, partly eligible or ineligible.
  3. At the household level, the Annual Household Portion is the amount you pay toward eligible bills before sharing can begin. Your monthly share and expenses outside the guidelines also matter to your budget.

Questions to resolve before joining

If you take a prescription every month, look up the rule for that drug and ask what you would pay throughout the year.

If you have an ongoing condition or are planning a pregnancy, read the relevant sections for waiting periods, limits and eligibility. Ask the ministry where your situation is addressed in writing.

If you have a preferred clinic, ask how it submits bills, what fees may be due at the visit and who handles a bill the ministry declines to share.

Read the current membership and sharing guidelines.

Compare sharing with an insurance policy

Take one example, such as a hospital stay followed by several months of treatment. For an insurance policy, look at the network, deductible and out-of-pocket limit. For Medi-Share, identify eligible bills, household responsibility and exclusions. Ask what your household would owe if a large bill were ineligible for sharing.

Review individual and family insurance options.

Bring your questions about sharing

Bring your questions about membership, regular care and costs. Confirm eligibility and sharing rules directly with the ministry before changing existing coverage.
